Work-life balance tops resignation reasons in Hong Kong

CAUSEWAY BAY, HONG KONG — Having a better work-life balance emerged as the top reason for resignation among Hong Kong professionals, with 42% citing it as their primary motivation for leaving their current employers.
According to the latest Randstad Employer Brand Research (REBR) by Randstad Hong Kong, the growing emphasis on work-life balance reflects the recognition of its importance for overall well-being and job satisfaction.
The survey also identified other factors influencing job changes, with 28% of respondents indicating low compensation and rising living costs as their primary concerns. Another 28% cited a need for career growth opportunities.
Luckily, Hong Kong companies are also improving. The REBR revealed the year-on-year gap between talent expectations and what employers can offer regarding work-life balance, dropping from eight to five points.
“Striking the right balance between work and life is critical for long-term success for companies aiming to attract top talent,” Randstad concluded.
Meanwhile, nearly one in three employees stated their intention to change jobs this year. Among generations, Millennials — or those aged 25 to 34 — emerged as the group with the highest inclination to switch jobs among all respondents.
On the other hand, Generation Z workers — aged 18 to 24 — on the other hand, expressed the least desire to change jobs.
