Savista acquires ambulatory RCM firm ABW Medical

Savista acquired ABW Medical, an ambulatory revenue cycle management (RCM) firm serving federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), rural health providers, and managed service organizations across the non-acute healthcare market.

The acquisition adds ABW Medical’s preferred partner status in the athenahealth ecosystem to Savista’s existing Epic-certified workforce and 35-year RCM track record.

ABW Medical deepens Savista’s ambulatory care reach

ABW Medical specializes in ambulatory RCM for community health centers, virtual care providers, and rural organizations through its preferred partnership in the athenahealth system, supporting athenaCollector, athenaClinicals, and athenaCommunicator.

Savista serves more than 800 clients across 49 states with a global delivery infrastructure, and ABW Medical’s non-acute expertise fills a gap in community and rural health segments.

“ABW Medical brings deep revenue cycle management expertise, a strong client base, and a delivery model that aligns well with how we operate. This acquisition expands our capabilities and opens new opportunities to serve community and rural health organizations that often face distinct financial pressures,” said Jan Grimm, chief executive officer of Savista.

ABW Medical’s athenahealth ties strengthen Savista’s market position

The deal gives Savista’s client base access to ABW Medical’s athenahealth capabilities, diversifying its electronic health records (EHR) expertise beyond Epic and broadening its ambulatory market position.

ABW Medical clients, including FQHCs, managed service organizations, and virtual care platforms, gain access to Savista’s expanded infrastructure and operational scale. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Joining Savista is an exciting next step for our team and our clients,” said John Bozin, chief executive officer of ABW Medical.

The acquisition reflects consolidation in ambulatory RCM, where larger healthcare operations firms are absorbing specialty providers with preferred status in major EHR platforms.

Community health centers and rural providers have historically lacked access to enterprise-scale RCM support, and the Savista-ABW Medical combination aims to address that gap with athenahealth expertise and global delivery capacity.

For healthcare organizations evaluating outsourced revenue cycle operations, the deal illustrates how larger RCM providers are extending their services across the full care continuum from acute hospital systems to independently operated clinics.

Savista’s global delivery infrastructure and multi-platform capabilities position it as a consolidator in a healthcare outsourcing segment where specialty expertise in athenahealth has become a distinct competitive advantage.
