BPO group calls for additional aid for displaced workers

The Philippine BPO Industry Employees Network (BIEN) has called on the government to provide further financial assistance to outsourcing workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group also urged the government to include the affected BPO workers in the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) of the Department of Labor and Employment, which, among other things, provides financial support to affected employees.
The group said a number of BPO workers have been made redundant or placed on ‘floating status’ after the accounts they were handling were closed due to the pandemic.
BIEN said most BPO workers live paycheck to paycheck, and their no-work-no-pay situation during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is leaving them with no income.
