BT Group to outsource supply chain operations to GXO Logistics
British multinational telecommunications company BT Group will outsource their supply chain operation to logistics firm GXO Logistics as part of their ongoing efforts to cut costs.
Under the partnership, the Group’s fixed broadband and mobile network build activities will be supported by GXO through transporting stock and replenishing supply stores. This move will help keep BT Group’s 15 million customers connected.
BT Group’s Chief Procurement and Supply Chain Officer Cyril Pourrat said that this new deal will “create opportunities to improve our service as we transform the business into an organization that delivers exceptional service, sustainable operations, and value for our customers and our colleagues.”
GXO UK and Ireland Managing Director Gavin Williams added that they will “deploy our technological expertise for a new end-to-end systems infrastructure that supports BT’s growth in fiber technology across the UK.
However, the deal could put some jobs under threat. About 300 warehouse, transport, and support roles are expected to be transferred to GXO and a further 300 third-party agency support roles will be expected to work under the terms of the partnership.
