Global consultancy and outsourcing firm Cognizant is likely to fire more than 6,000 employees this year, according to a report on the ETtech website. The layoffs, however, are part of the company’s normal employee appraisal process, a trend common among IT companies. A Cognizant spokesperson was quoted as saying that the regular performance reviews is part of the company’s workforce management strategy. This process results in changes, including some employees transitioning out of Cognizant, the spokesperson said. Cognizant, which has over 265,000 employees in various countries, generally lets go 2-3% of its workforce, who are under-performers, in a typical year.
