Datavant digitizes medical record retrieval
ARIZONA, UNITED STATES — Datavant has launched a digital platform that gives United States provider organizations a centralized system to request, track, and receive medical records across the healthcare ecosystem, replacing manual retrieval processes that have long added administrative cost and compliance risk.

Provider Exchange centralizes request creation, status tracking, and record fulfillment in a single system, giving clinical and administrative teams real-time visibility at every stage of the retrieval workflow.
Records are delivered digitally from submission through fulfillment, replacing a process that has historically involved phone requests, faxed documents, and manual tracking methods.
The platform is designed for provider-driven use cases, which Datavant distinguishes from earlier retrieval tools built primarily to serve payers or other requestor-side workflows.
“Provider Exchange is built specifically for those provider-driven workflows, helping organizations move beyond fragmented manual processes,” said Andrea Kowalski, Senior Vice President of Provider Products at Datavant.
Datavant’s network covers more than 80,000 healthcare provider sites and enables 60 million or more healthcare records to move annually, spanning 75% of the 100 largest U.S. health systems.

The Datavant Provider Exchange press release describes the underlying infrastructure as privacy-by-design, built for secure provider-to-provider sharing at scale.
The platform’s architecture supports high-volume retrieval requests across multiple facilities and specialty groups. Datavant’s broader network reaches more than 40% of U.S. healthcare organizations and includes over 350 real-world data partners, giving health systems access to one of the most widely connected interoperability ecosystems in U.S. healthcare.
The company reports that Provider Exchange delivers records digitally, removing the manual handoffs that routinely slow care coordination and create compliance exposure at the point of exchange.
