DTI counts on USAID’s support in MSME digitalization

MAKATI, PHILIPPINES — The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) could help boost MSME digitalization in the Philippines, according to Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Alfredo Pascual.
During the public launch of USAID’s Strengthening Private Enterprise for the Digital Economy (SPEED) Activity, Pascual stated that this program “can be DTI’s partner in empowering small and medium enterprises through digital transformation.”
The USAID SPEED is a five-year project that aims to promote economic growth by expanding and advancing the country’s digital ecosystem.
Focusing on four areas, USAID will work with the government and the private sector to mobilize the digital economy for enterprise-led development and increase the participation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the digital economy.
As for the project’s funding, United States Ambassador to the Philippines Mary Kay Carlson said they would allot US$18 million or Php1 billion to it.
Carlson added that this partnership with the Philippine government “aims to enable small and medium enterprises to participate safely, reliably, and competitively in the country’s emerging e-commerce ecosystem.”
