Duterte urges PH lawmakers to welcome more foreign investors

President Rodrigo Duterte pushes the country to open for more foreign investors by urging lawmakers to amend laws and ease restrictions on international retailers and professionals in his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 26, .
“This is by no means my swan song,” Duterte stated in front of the Congress. “I shall never cease to implore Congress to pass vital and critical legislation as well as to push the entire government to ensure nothing less than the full recovery and revitalization of our country.”
The president said that his government will work hard in restoring employment and is “committed to [assisting] the private sector to regain the commercial vibrance of the country prior to the pandemic.”
Francis Lim, president of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines commented on Duterte’s presidency saying, “If there’s any legacy that the president will leave, it’s these structural changes in our business landscape that will make it more conducive.”
