Konecta opens first global GenAI hub in Cairo

CAIRO, EGYPT — Konecta, the Spanish customer experience outsourcing group, has inaugurated its first global generative artificial intelligence (AI) center of excellence in New Cairo, Egypt, as part of a $100 million investment in the country, the company announced.

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindi, presided over the opening and reviewed Konecta’s Kolibri agentic AI platform, developed and localized by the company’s Egyptian specialists.

Cairo center anchors Konecta’s AI development and delivery

According to a report from iAfrica, the New Cairo facility serves clients across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, delivering digital customer experience, AI, data analytics, technical support, and Internet of Things (IoT) services from a team of 800 multilingual specialists across seven languages.

Egyptian teams lead the development, testing, and localization of the Kolibri platform, positioning Cairo as a product innovation hub within Konecta‘s global AI technology stack rather than a traditional service delivery site.

“Egypt is not just an operational site for Konecta, but our regional headquarters and hosts the group’s first global centre of excellence in generative artificial intelligence,” said Ahmed Al-Harrany, Vice Chairperson of Konecta for the Middle East and Africa.

Al-Harrany added, “The growth of our team in Egypt to 800 specialists, with a target of reaching 1,000 by the end of this year, reflects the depth of Egyptian talent and our clients’ confidence around the world in the services we provide from Cairo.”

Egypt ranks 16th globally on the Global Outsourcing AI Readiness Index and second in Africa, with the country’s national AI strategy targeting $42.7 billion in AI economic value.

Konecta plans to grow its Egyptian team from 800 to approximately 3,000 specialists by the end of 2028, tripling headcount to expand both AI platform development and multilingual client service capacity.

The Kolibri platform is designed for agentic AI applications, automating workflows, managing digital interactions, and enabling data-driven customer engagement across Konecta’s global client portfolio.

For the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, Konecta’s Cairo hub represents a new model in which AI product development and outsourced service delivery operate under one roof, driven by the same specialized talent base.

The Egypt investment signals that global outsourcing providers are positioning offshore locations not only as service centers but as engineering and AI development hubs capable of building the platforms their clients depend on.

Egypt’s combination of multilingual capacity, cost competitiveness, and government-backed AI investment is making it a competitive destination for AI-driven BPO and technology services.
