Data centers lead Odisha’s $29Bn project approvals
- Odisha approved 27 projects worth ₹2,47,115.70 crore (about US$29 billion).
- The projects have an employment potential of 50,162 jobs.
- Four IT, ITeS and data center projects account for about ₹1,42,941 crore.
- The projects span 15 districts, from Khordha to Sundargarh.
BHUBANESWAR, INDIA — Odisha has approved 27 investment projects worth ₹2,47,115.70 crore (about US$29 billion) across 15 districts, with data centers, artificial intelligence (AI) and IT-enabled services taking the largest share.
The projects carry an employment potential of 50,162 jobs across sectors from semiconductors and green hydrogen to steel and shipbuilding.
Four digital projects dominate the pipeline
The approvals came at the 46th meeting of the state’s High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA), chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, according to Organiser.
Four IT, ITeS and data center projects account for a combined investment of about ₹1,42,941 crore.
High Density Data Centre Limited will build an integrated data center in Khordha with an investment of ₹1,04,550 crore and an employment potential of 1,000.
HCLTech will set up an AI-optimized data center in Khordha with an investment of ₹14,257 crore and potential employment for 385 people.
In Puri, Sentraforge AI Ltd will establish an AI data center and global capability center (GCC) with an investment of ₹22,634 crore and an employment potential of 2,320.
RKD Construction Private Limited will build a data center facility in Cuttack with an investment of ₹1,500 crore and potential employment for 220 people.
Chief minister pitches Odisha to global investors
“From data centres, artificial intelligence and semiconductors to green energy, advanced manufacturing, steel, healthcare and emerging industries, Odisha is creating new engines of growth while strengthening its traditional industrial base,” Majhi said.
The approvals also include two thermal power plants and two pumped-storage hydro projects worth a combined ₹54,287.70 crore, and five lab-grown diamond projects worth ₹10,680 crore.
“We will continue to provide a transparent, responsive and investor-friendly ecosystem to make Odisha a preferred destination for both domestic and global investors,” Majhi said.
The approvals follow Odisha’s Dubai investment outreach earlier this month, where IT and ITeS led the sector breakdown.
For companies weighing business process outsourcing (BPO) or GCC locations beyond India’s largest metros, Odisha is pairing new data center capacity with a pitch for technology-enabled services.
The test for buyers comparing the top BPO companies worldwide is whether the state can build the skilled workforce that AI data centers and a GCC in Puri will need.
