Remote work boosts productivity at the expense of burnout – PwC
Remote and hybrid working models provided productivity boosts in most workplaces. However, this came at the expense of employee trust and burnout as most people cannot balance their personal lives and workloads.
PwC Romania Country Managing Partner Dinu Bumbăcea said that “as time went on, the new way of working began to show its shortcomings.”
PwC noted that burnout is becoming an epidemic, with the World Health Organisation (WHO) recognizing it as an official disease.
Resignation from weary and anxious employees is starting to rise around the world.
According to the PwC Future of Work and Skills Survey, almost 60% of the organization had performed better over the past 12 months, while four per cent performed significantly worse. However, only 31% of business leaders believe that they are building “high levels of trust” between employees and their direct supervisors.
Additionally, 74% stated that they are not fully confident that workloads are manageable enough for employees to have personal time.
About 20 million people in the United States quit their jobs between April and August 2021. At the same time, over one million jobs in the United Kingdom have been left open since August 2021.
Bumbăcea stated that “companies must find a balance between the way they work and people’s health.”
