Telstra looking to tap Fiji’s BPO sector
Fiji’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry is in discussions with Australian telecommunications company Telstra for a potential partnership.
According to Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Telstra’s acquisition of Fiji-based mobile phone network firm Digicel Fiji brings in more opportunities for growth in the industry.
The minister added that Telstra is already outsourcing work to the Philippines and India, and “people are interested in bringing businesses closer to homes such as Fiji.”
Meanwhile, Minister for Tourism Faiyaz Koya stated that despite the global impact of the pandemic, the government is creating a landscape and infrastructure to see new stronger areas of businesses.
Koya added that harnessing these sectors would open more jobs in the country. The outsourcing sector has already shown resilience during the worst of the pandemic and created new job opportunities for 5000 Fijians.
