Telus Funds Adat B’laan’s Cultural Awareness Programs
Telus International Philippines (TIP), through its foundation TIP Community Board, donated PHP455,396 (USD8,722) to the Adat B’laan community in South Cotabato and non-profit organization GeoChris Foundation in order to finance programs aimed at reviving cultural awareness among the Adat B’laan youth. The financial grant allowed community elders to establish the Adat B’laan Cultural Group and create learning modules on traditional musical skills, ritual and worship dances, and literature, which are taught through Saturday learning sessions. Aside from the learning modules, the community also expanded to service research, cultural shows and exchanges.
The TIP Community Board sponsors programs that support communities with unique needs in the areas of health, environment and education. Phoebe Carrera, TIP corporate social responsibility manager, said the Community Board allows their presence to be felt not only in the BPO and digital solutions sectors, but also in communities that are in need. Meanwhile, GeoChris Foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes holistic education, cultural invigoration and sustainable living for indigenous groups in Abra, Palawan and South Cotabato.
