HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM — Ho Chi Minh City drew $5.7 billion in domestic and foreign investment to its export processing and industrial zones in the first nine months of 2026, reaching 131.15% of its full-year target.
Investment rose 29.13% year on year, with data centers for artificial intelligence (AI) and big-data processing among the largest new projects.
Data centers lead the city’s biggest projects
Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the zones reached $4.27 billion, up 62.22% year on year, according to VietnamPlus.
Tran Viet Ha, deputy head of the Ho Chi Minh City Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (HEPZA), gave the figures at a press briefing on Sept. 24.
HEPZA granted investment certificates to 100 new projects worth $3.14 billion and approved capital increases totaling $1.13 billion for 120 existing projects.
The largest project is a $2.1 billion data center in Tan Phu Trung Industrial Park, designed to build high-performance computing infrastructure for AI and big-data processing.
It is expected to generate demand for digital infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, technology services and highly skilled workers.
Saigon Hi-Tech Park adds hyperscale capacity
Separately, the Saigon Hi-Tech Park granted certificates to four new projects worth $1.23 billion in the first nine months, equal to 87.9% of its full-year target.
The Evolution hyperscale wholesale data center, with registered capital of more than $508 million, is the largest newly licensed FDI project at the park this year.
On the domestic side, the STARMASON hyperscale data center complex has registered capital of about $480 million.
Nguyen Ky Phung, head of the Saigon Hi-Tech Park Management Board, said the new projects play complementary roles in the high-tech ecosystem, with one strengthening digital infrastructure and others expanding high-tech manufacturing.
The park now hosts 165 valid projects with total registered capital of about $13.86 billion, including investors such as Intel, Samsung, Jabil and Nidec.
For buyers weighing offshore outsourcing in Southeast Asia, new data center capacity in Vietnam’s largest city adds infrastructure for AI, data and digital transformation work delivered from the country.
Firms comparing Vietnam with other destinations on the top BPO companies worldwide list can watch whether demand for skilled technology workers keeps pace with the new capacity.
