Cebu City to address transport woes in the BPO sector

The Cebu City government is working on a feasible solution to solve the growing transport problem in the city, which affects the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry. Aside from improving the city’s infrastructure, it will also provide special vehicles to and from Cebu City’s Asiatown IT Park, where majority of the BPO buildings are located, said Jose Mari Yu, Cebu City consultant on investments. For instance, Ceres buses ply both the southbound and northbound routes, especially during night shifts. They have also increased police visibility and improved street lighting on sidewalks. The number of BPO workers in Cebu is expected to hit 200,000 by 2019. Yu said transportation and traffic are among the challenges in the industry. Other challenges are security and safety, housing, and a one-stop shop for the processing of employment papers.
