No Need to Worry, U.S. Ambassador
Sung Kim, the United States Ambassador to the Philippines, says that there is no cause for concern in Donald Trump’s outsourcing policy.
He sought to allay fears that jobs would be shipped back to the United States. He heaped praise on Filipino BPO workers, calling them a ‘dedicated workforce’. He highlighted the cultural affinity between the two countries at the Makati Business Club.
The lower cost of operations in the Philippines results in a business climate where U.S. companies are driven to invest. Kim also pointed out that no contracts have been cancelled so far.
The BPO industry is the second-largest contributor to the Philippines’ national economy, employing some 1.3 million workers. Kim added that there was no travel ban on Filipinos traveling to the United States.
There are also no delays in processing visa applications at the U.S. Embassy in Manila.
Kim is a graduate of the London School of Economics and has wide experience in the Asia-Pacific region. Born in Seoul, Kim has held several diplomatic positions in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong, besides Washington.
