US investors say PH BPOs here to stay
The business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in the Philippines has nothing to worry about the America-first policy of the Trump administration as this new thrust only applies to offshore manufacturing investments in countries where the US has a huge trade deficit. This was the assurance given by US businesses to the Philippines at a recent forum in Washington, D.C. Charito Plaza, director-general of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, said US investors have assured them that BPOs in the Philippines will not be affected because the America-first policy of the president is more on the manufacturing and not for service providers. In a meeting with the US Chamber of Commerce, Plaza said the group disclosed that the US government will not press for the US IT-BPO companies operating in the Philippines to cut down on their offshore operations to minimize job displacement of Americans.
