Poor students to acquire tech skills in IT program

With the aim of inculcating information technology (IT) skills among young students, a small nonprofit school offering the K-12 program has forged an alliance with IT advocate Developers Connect Philippines (DevCon). DevCon and Mano Amiga Academy are hoping to start DevCon Kids, a program that aims to equip students from low-income families with technology skills to enable them to have better chances of landing more decent jobs in the future. The academy opened in 2008 in Taguig City and has already expanded to Parañaque City in Metro Manila, Philippines. It offers international quality education in a bid to aid poor students to become more globally competitive, especially in today’s highly digital world. DevCon, for its part, is committed to promoting IT in the Philippines by gathering tech experts together to more proactively provide digital opportunities to citizens.
