JPMorgan, Bayan Academy, TESDA Team Up For Technical Education

Social development organization Bayan Academy has partnered with JPMorgan and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to bolster technical-vocational education through the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan (2018-2022 NTESDP), which aims to respond to the need for workforce competitiveness and readiness in meeting emerging and evolving labor market needs. The plan covers eight priority industries: tourism, IT-BPM, real estate and construction, agriculture, manufacturing, electronics and electrical equipment, transportation, storage and communication, and health and wellness.
IT-BPM, tourism and construction are expected to grow very rapidly in terms of number of workers from 2017-2022, said the 2018-2022 NTESDP. The plan will consult various stakeholders composed of industry experts and leaders to reformulate TESDA’s current curricula into ICT-anchored and enterprise-based curricula that will be enterprise-led or demand-based. It will also include the development of expanded employment opportunities, particularly for the country’s most vulnerable communities. Carlos Ma. Mendoza, senior country officer of JPMorgan Philippines, said the company is committed to helping bridge nationwide efforts to prepare the local workforce to compete globally.
