Chamber honors TCS for boosting computational skills of US students

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was the outright winner in the Best Commitment to Education Program category at this year’s US Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Citizens Awards. This saw the Mumbai-headquartered company recognized for the success of its Ignite My Future in School (IMFIS) campaign, an initiative designed to help US teachers instill critical computational thinking skills in their students. Commenting on the significance of the award, Balaji Ganapathy, TCS’s head of Workforce Effectiveness, said it was due acknowledgment of the transformative impact the IMFIS program has had on US education.
In light of the success of the initial programme, Ganapathy said the company is committed to taking it to the next level by providing educators, students and the school system with access to the kind of transdisciplinary resources that drive computational thinking, undeniably one of the foundational skills required for career success in the 21st century. Outlining why TCS was such a worthy winner, Marc Decourcey, senior vice president of the US Chamber Foundation, said it is one of the few companies that is genuinely tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges by seamlessly integrating innovation, expertise, efficiency, capital and collaboration.
