DICT officer says Bacolod is ICT leader
Bacolod city is a leader in information and communications technology (ICT), according to Atty. Ivin Ronald Alzona, officer-in-charge undersecretary for regional operations and countryside and ICT industry development for the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). Alzona, in a speech during the commemoration of the 121st Philippine Independence Day in Bacolod, recognized the Bacolod city government’s efforts of providing a vibrant ICT industry that enables its constituents to take advantage of ICT, particularly in the fields of government services delivery, trade, technopreneurship, finance, and health. He pointed out the city’s 35,000 direct BPO jobs and more than 100,000 jobs that support over 30 IT-BPM firms in its 27 parks and centers. He also cited Bacolod’s fully functional technology business incubation centers providing support to startups, and institutions offering ICT-industry-centric trainings. Alzona hopes Bacolod will be included in the next Tholons Top 100 Digital Cities list for the support it gave to the local ICT ecosystem, the development of the local innovation system, and its continuous digital transformation.
