Medtronic to outsource jobs to the Philippines
Medical technology, services, and solutions provider Medtronic is outsourcing some work to the Philippines as part of efforts to stay competitive. Medtronic is reportedly eliminating lower-skilled jobs in Columbia Heights, Minnesota, and shifting the work to a contractor based in the Philippines. Medtronic, however, declined to identify the outside contractor, but sources have said the company is hiring IT services firm Cognizant. The outsourcing company will provide phone-answering and customer service functions for Medtronic from offices in the Philippines. About 70 people at Medtronic’s Sullivan Lake plant in Columbia Heights were notified last week that their jobs would be affected.
