BIEN claims danger of job losses not being addressed
The BPO Industry Employees Network (BIEN) said the Philippine government has not done much to stem the danger of job losses due to automation. BIEN spokesperson Mylene Cabalona said that while the government seems to depend on the BPO industry to generate employment, it has not done much to protect the welfare of outsourcing workers. The International Labour Organization said 89% of BPO workers in the Philippines are at high risk due to changes in technology. Cabalona said if the government is serious about securing decent jobs for the people it should look into developing more robust industries to create jobs.
