Japanese, Philippine firms ink pact for training of Filipino workers

Two Japanese firms have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoU) with a Philippine electronic and semiconductor subcontractor company for the training of future manufacturing managers. Japan’s Tescom Denki and Outsourcing Inc. signed the MoU with EMS Group to send at least 3,000 skilled Filipino workers to Japan for work experience and training. The workers will consist of IT professionals and engineers, among others. Dita Angara-Mathay, special trade representative in Tokyo for the Department of Trade and Industry, said the initiative aims to fill the gap of manufacturing managers in the Philippines. The MoU was one of several agreements signed between the Philippines and Japan during President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent visit to Japan. The signed Japanese investments are expected to boost the manufacturing resurgence in the Philippines, according to sources.
