Demand for hybrid skills to rise in SE Asia in 2020

Hybrid skills, “glocal” talent, and potential and transferable skills will be in high demand in the Philippines and Southeast Asia by 2020 as more firms move towards digitalization, according to a report from global recruitment group Robert Walters. The England-based group, with regional offices in Southeast Asia, said digital transformation will drive demand for risk and compliance professionals, as companies seek to address evolving regulatory requirements across the region due to growth in digital banking, fintech, and digital payment solutions.
As more firms shift towards internationalization, “glocal” talent — or people with experience in local and international markets — will also be in higher demand, the report said. In addition, hiring managers will look for professionals who show potential rather than experience, as the demand for talent and technological skills exceeds current supply, said the study. It added that professionals no longer consider salary as the only primary factor to stay at a job, as an increasing number prefer career progression along with learning and development opportunities.
