DOST sees greater ICT collaboration with South Korea

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said it expects the Philippines and South Korea to collaborate more on e-learning using information and communications technology (ICT). DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña is looking at more scholarship programs and research partnerships between the two countries.
South Korea has committed to support the implementation of the ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2020 using emerging technologies including 5G and artificial intelligence to boost the region’s response to digital adoption. The country also vowed to help ASEAN transform into a digital-driven economy and prepare the citizens for the latest technological innovations in emerging industry sectors such as 5G technology, AI, banking and finance, and e-commerce. Furthermore, South Korea has started facilitating more people exchanges by making changes to the visa system for ASEAN member-states, with plans to increase people-to-people exchanges to 15 million by next year.
