India’s BPO/ITES sector holds 10% share in fresher hiring
MUMBAI, INDIA — The Business Process Outsourcing/Information Technology Enabled Services (BPO/ITES) industry in India secured a 10% share in hiring entry-level professionals over the past six months.
According to data from the talent platform foundit, the demand for freshers increased by four per cent during the same period, with most job postings (92%) being for in-office roles.
Among industries, the recruitment/staffing sector held the highest demand (22% share) for entry-level professionals, followed by IT software and software services (19%). The education and healthcare sectors also contributed five percent and four, respectively.
“Improved initiatives for skill development in the educational system can close the employability gap in the Indian market,” said foundit APAC & ME CEO Sekhar Garisa.
He also highlighted the crucial role of learning and development (L&D) initiatives in equipping freshers with the necessary skills.
Foundit’s report also revealed that recruiters within the IT industry are mainly focused on finding tech talent proficient in cloud computing, data science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
However, soft skills such as effective communication, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking are equally valued by employers.
