PLDT invests P7B to improve undersea fiber cable
PLDT Incorporated is investing almost P7 billion ($136.7 million) for a new Trans-Pacific cable system that will strengthen its undersea fiber links to both Japan and the USA.
Companies like Amazon, Facebook, SoftBank, PCCW Global, NTT Communications, and PLDT all signed commercial agreements to build and operate a cable system called Jupiter.
According to PLDT, Jupiter can directly deliver a capacity of more than 60 TBps from the Philippines to Japan and the US. And it will be ready for service by early 2020.
According to PLDT Global Corporation president and CEO Kat Luna-Abelarde, this will allow PLDT to quickly ramp up capacity whenever needed. This will also result in a significantly lower latency of the data connectivity.
Also, PLDT has been investing heavily in International submarine cables to be able to meet the continuously growing needs of the Filipinos.
