AI is buzzword in realm of technology
Many workers fear losing their jobs as AI (Artificial Intelligence) takes the spotlight. However, as Accenture Philippines digital lead JP Palpallatoc mentioned, upskilling workers and students will pave the way for humans and machines to collaborate. Furthermore, he said that instead of focusing on the elimination of jobs, we should focus on the opportunities to enhance our skills and create more jobs by allowing humans to work with machines.
He admitted that low-skilled workers might be at risk. However, he also mentioned that medium to high-skilled workers could complement artificial intelligence. Hence, the need for upskilling and reskilling.
Accenture is collaborating with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), government and academe to upgrade the skills of the Filipino workforce thus allowing them to collaborate with AI.
Artificial Intelligence is just among the five global technology trends mentioned in the Technology Vision 2018 report that different companies need to consider to be able to adapt to a digital age. The Tech Vision report is a yearly report of senior-level execs that follows technology trends in different companies. The report this year showed that 84 percent of respondents believe that technology can be utilized to help their companies become ingrained in how people live their lives today.
The other trends mentioned in the report are extended; reality, data veracity, frictionless business, and internet-of-thinking.
The majority of the companies in the Philippines are classified under small and medium enterprises. Palpallatoc said that smaller companies do not have the burden of a legacy system which enables them to become more flexible.
Moreover, we shouldn’t be intimidated by progress rather we should be aware of it and find a way to use it to our advantage.
